Romain Grosjean aims qualifying improvement in the season ahead – Formula 1 news
Lotus driver Romain Grosjean has said that they need to improve their qualifying performance in the forthcoming 2012 Formula 1 season.
Grosjean secured an impressive second podium finish in the Canadian Grand Prix held at Circuit Gilles-Villeneuve in Montreal on June 10 after setting off from 7thplace in the grid. Furthermore, he showed an amazing pace during the ending laps in which he
left behind the Spaniard, Fernando Alonso of Ferrari and Sebastian Vettel of Red Bull Racing.
However, the French driver believes that they need to enhance their qualifying pace in order to secure competitive grid positions in the races ahead to attain better results.
Nonetheless, he said that they have been trying their best to make the necessary arrangements so as to come up strong in the qualifying of the upcoming races. He also said that they have been able to gather some valuable information about their car during
the last few races which will definitely help in taking the essential steps forward.
“The gap to the win is not that big,” said Grosjean. “We need to qualify better, that is not our strength this season but we are working on it. I think Friday and Saturday were quite difficult for us in Canada but we have been learning a lot about the car
so it's good that we now have that in our pocket for the next races.”
At present, he is at 7th place in the drivers’ championship with 53 points. Moreover, he is 8 points ahead of Jenson Button of McLaren and just 2 points behind his teammate, Kimi Raikkonen.
Even though, he has retired in three out of first seven races, however, he has delivered some inspiring performances in the season so far.
Meanwhile, the Enstone based team is presently at third place in the constructors’ championship with 108 points. In addition, they are 11 points ahead of Scuderia-Ferrari and 25 points behind McLaren-Mercedes.
It will be important to mention that they have been deemed as one of the most competitive contenders in this season and they are making their best efforts to make the considerable developments to fight for the championship title.
