Romain Grosjean apologises for crash caused by him in 2012 Belgian Grand Prix – Formula 1 news
Lotus driver Romain Grosjean has said that he is very sorry over the crash in the 2012 Belgian Grand Prix caused by him and accepted the penalty of suspension from one race.
Grosjean drifted into Lewis Hamilton of McLaren at the turn one during the very first lap of the Belgian GP due to which he hit Ferrari’s Fernando Alonso after taking off from the backside of Sergio Perez of Sauber. Hence, he caused four retirements in the
race including his own.
Moreover, he is now not allowed to take part in the Italian GP as he has been penalised over his collision at Circuit de Spa-Francorchamps.
The French driver he completely admits his mistake and accepts the decision of the race stewards. In addition, he said that he didn’t do anything intentionally as he thought he had enough room to overtake the British driver but his estimate proved out to
be wrong.
“When your life is all about racing, not being allowed to attend an event is probably one of worst experiences you can go through,” he said. “That said, I do respect the verdict of stewards. I got good start despite being disturbed by Pastor early launch,
which I think was the case for everybody at front and was heading into the first corner when the rear of my car made contact with the front of Lewis. I honestly thought I was ahead of him and there was enough room for both cars; I didn't deliberately try to
squeeze him or anything like that.”
Furthermore, he said that all these kind of incidents help in gaining more and more experience in racing and he hopes to be a better driver in the future in every aspect of the game.
Meanwhile, the team principal of Lotus, Eric Boullier said that they are not going to appeal against the decision of the stewards and are looking forward to bring in Grosjean’s replacement in the race ahead.
Over and above, it has been reported that Jerome d'Ambrosio who is the test driver of the Enstone based team will take part in the forthcoming race in place of the Frenchman.
