Romain Grosjean apologises to Fernando Alonso for Spa accident – Formula 1 news
Ferrari driver Fernando Alonso has said that Romain Grosjean of Lotus has apologised to him for the accident in the 2012 Belgian Grand Prix due to which he was retired and could not score any points.
Grosjean drifted into Lewis Hamilton’s car at turn one during the very first lap at Spa-Francorchamps, causing the cars to go out of control and hit the backside of Sergio Perez while strike Alonso severely. As a result all the four contenders had to face
the retirement and couldn’t pocket even a single point.
Afterwards, the Frenchman accepted his mistake and took the responsibility of the unpleasant incident caused by him. Moreover, he has been penalised with one-race suspension by the race stewards.
Furthermore, the Spaniard expressed that he was not angry with the Grosjean after the horrid occurrence during the last week.
Additionally, recently the two-time world champion said that he has always enjoyed a very good association with the French driver who was his teammate in Renault. He also said that his ex-teammate is feeling extremely sorry for his mistake and has personally
sent him his apology on a text message which stated that he couldn’t manage to make the right estimate of distance and ultimately went across the British driver.
“Yes, I have a very good relationship with Grosjean. We were team-mates in Renault and after the accident he sent me an SMS on the telephone to say that he didn't calculate the distance and the problems and that there was many factors together and that he
felt so sorry for the accident,” said Alonso.
Besides, he said that he answered to him that he has no problem with it and asserted that he is well aware of the other factors which became the reason of the accident. Over and above, he said that they are looking forward to meet in the Singapore GP and
hope to perform well so as to fight for the title.
“I answered saying no problem. I know there was many factors on that start and in Singapore we will see each other again. So it was all fine,” he added.
