Romain Grosjean beats Tom Kristensen to win individual event at Race of Champions – Formula 1 news
Lotus driver Romain Grosjean has won the individual event at Race of Champions after beating Le Mans legend Tom Kristensen at Rajamangala Stadium in Bangkok.
Grosjean beat the seven-time world champion, Michael Schumacher in the semi-finals and the youngest triple world champion, Sebastian Vettel of Red Bull Racing in the quarter finals of the Race of Champions.
The Frenchman performed tremendously well in the knock-out rounds and finally claimed the title after beating Kristensen in the final round.
On the other hand, the German drivers, Schumacher and Vettel won the Nations Cup team competition which was held on Saturday. Besides, Former F1 driver David Coulthard also took part in the event but was defeated by Kristensen.
The French driver expressed that he is extremely happy after winning the single race event in ROC. In addition, he said that although he was a little bit upset over losing the team cup in the final round, but is feeling immensely pleased to take victory
in the single event.
“That's what I'd call a crazy day,” Grosjean said. “It got a bit tough in the group stages but I managed to make it through. Then I had to face Sebastian Vettel in quarter-final before Michael Schumacher in the semi-final the two Germans who beat us in yesterday's
ROC Nations Cup final.”
“Then I had the final with Tom. We've had good history at this event and I've raced him before so it was good to face him in the final. I got a bit of extra luck to be in the right car at the right time but it felt good,” he added.
It will be important to note that Grosjean’s future in the sport is still uncertain as the Enstone based team has not yet confirmed his race seat for the next season.
Nonetheless, he is not feeling disappointed and is positively looking forward to stay in F1 and is aiming to remain in Lotus for the coming season. He has been considered as one of the most talented drivers in the sport and it will be exciting to see whether
he will be able to secure his race seat or not.
