Romain Grosjean believes Kimi Raikkonen can win championship – Formula 1 news
Lotus driver Romain Grosjean believes that his teammate, Kimi Raikkonen has got the potential to win the 2012 Formula 1 World Drivers’ Championship.
Raikkonen has made his F1 return in this season with Lotus after taking part in the World Rally Championship during the last couple of years. Moreover, he has impressed everyone with his amazing performance in the season until now and is currently standing
at third position in the drivers’ rankings with 149 points.
Additionally, he is ahead of his main rival, Lewis Hamilton of McLaren and is behind the defending champion, Sebastian Vettel of Red Bull Racing. Even though, the current leader in the drivers’ standings, Fernando Alonso of Ferrari has a strong lead over
the Finnish driver, nonetheless, Grosjean has asserted that the 32-year-old can still win the championship title.
In addition, the Frenchman said that the Finn is an amazing driver and has better chances to close the gap to the front than him.
“We were very evenly matched on pace but he is fighting to be World Champion, and has very good chance of achieving that,” said Grosjean. “He is still a very good driver. Of course I wasn't going to make it difficult for him as he is nearer the front of
championship than me.”
Furthermore, he said that the track of the Japanese GP is one of the most challenging circuits in the calendar at which there is almost no room for mistakes. Nonetheless, he expressed that they are confidently looking forward to perform well in the forthcoming
race so as to make their mark stronger in this year’s championship fight.
“What a circuit! If we have good base line setup then we can really enjoy the track. It's an amazing circuit. I've only raced there once but I loved it so I'm really looking forward to going back. It's difficult to pick one part of circuit as your favourite,”
he added.
Besides, he said that they are keenly waiting to see the amazing love and support which they get from the Japanese fans.
It will be thrilling to see how the Enstone based team performs in the remainder of the season.
