Romain Grosjean believes Sebastian Vettel is the toughest title contender – Formula 1 news
Lotus driver Romain Grosjean believes that Sebastian Vettel of Red Bull Racing has become the toughest title contender in the 2012 Formula 1 World Championship after claiming his third consecutive victory in the Korean Grand Prix.
Vettel could not dominate in the current season as compared to the previous one in which he won 11 races. Nevertheless, he has performed incredibly well in the season so far and has been considered as one of the most competent drivers even before scoring
win in the last race.
At present, he is at the top of the drivers’ rankings with 215 points. Moreover, he has a lead of 6 points over his main rival, Fernando Alonso of Ferrari who had led the championship for quite a long time until now.
Even though, the veteran German driver has become the out-and-out favourite in this year’s championship fight, nonetheless, he has asserted that they can’t take anything easy from now on as the season has been very unpredictable so far and the competition
is still very tough. Therefore, he said that they still need to work really hard to keep on making the significant developments in their car so as to defend their title.
Although, almost everyone is avoiding making projections about the remaining four grands prix but Grosjean has said that the defending champion is undoubtedly the favourite contender in this year’s championship fight.
“I’ve always said this season that Fernando Alonso is the favourite,” he is quoted by RMC, “but you have to change your tune now because Sebastian Vettel has taken a step ahead of everyone.”
In addition, the Frenchman said that the Milton Keynes based team is unquestionably the strongest competitor. Besides, he said that Red Bull have become invincible now and it is very hard to catch them in the remainder of the season.
“They (Red Bull) are almost unbeatable in the race — very fast,” added Grosjean. “It will be difficult to beat them before the end of the season.”
It will be interesting to see how all the contenders perform in the Indian GP which is going to be held at Buddh International Circuit this weekend.
