Romain Grosjean believes they could edge Kamui Kobayashi at qualifiers of Suzuka – Formula 1 news
Romain Grosjean of Lotus made it to the 4th grid during the qualifying session of the Japanese Grand Prix scheduled at the Suzuka circuit however he believes that he could have attained the 3rd grid position at the Japanese circuit edging Kamui Kobayashi
of Sauber.
He said, “I think we could have been ahead of Kobayashi. The lap was not the best one ever but in general compared to yesterday we were thinking sixth would be the best and we're fifth, so we're one step ahead of what we were thinking would be the best.”
The French driver is satisfied with his long run speed as he was able to follow Red Bull. He believes that they had same speed on average. He anticipates that he will be able to show impressive performance over the circuit during race.
“[Long run pace] looked pretty interesting yesterday, pretty good to be honest. I followed the Red Bull and we were more or less the same speed. So that's a good point and if we have a good start tomorrow then I'll try to follow them and see what we can
do,” he added.
Grosjean further added that Red Bull may be better even in long run but one cannot predict the future and there are always chances. He added that they will need to be careful with the tyre wear out problems and they have already experienced such issues.
He anticipates that they will not be facing such issues during the race and they will not be affected much.
The Lotus driver registered the 7th fastest lap during the free practice 3 of the Japanese GP. He finished the lap with a gap of 0.872 seconds from Sebastian Vettel of Red Bull Racing who finished the practice lap in least possible time.
Grosjean currently has 82 points in the championship and has not been able to win any grand prix in the season. He has retired from 5 races in the current 2012 season.
Let’s see how the French driver performs in the upcoming Japanese Grand Prix scheduled on coming Sunday.
