Romain Grosjean confident of turning things around in 2013 - Formula 1 news
Lotus driver Romain Grosjean is much more confident heading into the 2013 season compared to last year, when he was involved in numerous first lap incidents and
had to sit out for one race due to a ban from the race stewards.
“I have much more experience than I did heading into last year and I’m looking forward to the whole season.” said Grosjean. “I feel much more comfortable as I approach
the 2013 season. Last year there were some highs and some lows, so the idea now is to keep up the performance that I’m able to show and bring some consistency which needs to be there every time.”
The Frenchman was quite impressive throughout the previous season and came close to winning a race on a couple of occasions. He had the car to challenge the front
runners on most of the times, but lacked discipline, which prevented him from making an impact.
As a result, he had to face a lot of criticism from Formula 1 pundits and from other drivers, who suffered because of him. Red Bull’s Mark Webber was also one of
the victims of Grosjean’s rash driving and labelled the youngster as a ‘first lap nut case.’
Despite all the criticism, Lotus decided to retain the talented driver, as he showed the potential to fight for victories. He scored podiums in Bahrain, Canada
and Hungary, which was an indication that he was not taking things lightly.
However, Grosjean finished eighth in the drivers’ championship, which was certainly not good by his standards. He had the car to finish in the top five, but disappointed
one and all because of his silly mistakes.
He claimed that things will be different this year and added, “We always want to be at the front; that’s the aim, and we’ll do the best that the car can do. As
long as I perform to my best then I will be happy.”
Compared to Grosjean, team-mate Kimi Raikkonen proved to be quite threatening and he secured the third spot in the championship. Although he was making a comeback
to the sport, he did not show any signs of rustiness at all.
