Romain Grosjean gets Renault FP1 drives at Abu Dhabi and Brazil Grands Prix – Formula 1 news
Romain Grosjean will be driving for Renault during FP1 sessions at Abu Dhabi and Brazilian Grands Prix.
Grosjean, who raced for Renault in 2009, has managed to win the GP2 title during the 2011 season. He was being managed by Gravity Management Company run by Eric Boullier, team principal of Renault team.
Boullier feels that it is about time that Grosjean participates more in the team, and said, “Romain has been part of the LRGP family since February and we feel this is an appropriate time to give him a chance to drive for us during two Free Practice sessions.”
He added, “Putting his skills to the test in two consecutive Friday sessions will offer him precious experience of driving the R31 during a race weekend and will make him a better driver.”
“I'm sure that his feedback will be useful for the team, especially as he raced in F1 only two years ago. Since then, he has improved in every area and I'm sure he'll do a good job for us,” added the team principal.
Grosjean spoke on the news with maturity and said that his experiences of the last year has prepared him well for the opportunity he has been handed. He said that he is delighted to have the this opportunity and excited about the prospects of driving the
R31 for the first time during a Grand Prix weekend.
Although he did mention that he understands the responsibility and is going to try and do the best he can for the team. He further added that he has a good interaction with the team’s mechanics and engineers and understand the methodology that goes behind.
Knowledge of the two tracks is going to help as well, while his fitness levels are high because of the GP2 season.
Finally, he mentioned the Pirelli tyres are not going to feel much different as he already did some Formula 1 test runs for them earlier in the year.
The Abu Dhabi Grand Prix is going to take place on November 13, 2011 and in Brazil on November 27, 2011. Let’s see how Grosjean fares in the practice runs for Renault.
