Romain Grosjean hopes for competitive race in Montreal – Formula 1 news
Lotus driver Romain Grosjean has said that he is positively looking forward to perform well in the 2012 Canadian GP which is to be held at Circuit Gilles-Villeneuve in Montreal on June 10.
Grosjean said that they have been working really hard to improve the pace of E20. Therefore he believes that he will come up strong with his competitive car in the race ahead.
“Hopefully pretty good, but honestly I don't know - it's difficult to say. We haven't gone to any tracks with low downforce so far. I'm confident that the team has been working well, I'm confident that our baseline setup is pretty good and we can improve
from there to get the best from everything,” he said.
The French driver is currently standing at 8th place in the drivers’ championship with 35 points. Furthermore, he is 6 points ahead of Pastor Maldonado of Williams and 10 points behind Jenson Button of McLaren.
Although, he delivered inspiring performances in the qualifying of three of the first six races but he could not score even a single point in either of them as he was retired.
Nevertheless, he secured 6th place finish in the third race held at Shanghai International Circuit in China after setting off from 10th place in the grid. Later on, he secured an impressive third podium finish in the fourth race at Bahrain International
circuit in Sakhir after beginning from 7th grid position.
On the other hand, his teammate, Kimi Raikkonen is at 6th place in the drivers’ rankings with 51 points. Besides, he is 6 points ahead of Jenson Button and 8 points behind Nico Rosberg of Mercedes.
The Finnish driver has also performed quite convincingly in the season until now as he secured second and third podium finish in the fourth and fifth grand prix. Even so he struggled during the last race in Monte Carlo. Nonetheless, he is focusing to improve
his pace in the forthcoming race.
The British team had a very successful pre-season testing programme this year. Additionally, they have been deemed as one of the most competitive contenders in the season so far. Above and beyond, they are standing at fourth place in the constructors’ championship
with 86 points and are aiming to make their position stronger in this year’s title fight.
