Romain Grosjean hopes to perform well in the qualifying of Bahrain Grand Prix – Formula 1 news
Lotus driver Romain Grosjean has expressed that he is hoping to perform well in the qualifying of the 2013 Bahrain Grand Prix after taking a good start with his new chassis on Friday.
Grosjean could only secure one point in the season opener held at Albert Park in Melbourne after qualifying for 8th grid position whereas his teammate, Kimi Raikkonen claimed an impressive victory after taking a start from 7th grid
slot. Later, he came 6th in the Malaysian GP and secured 9th place finish in the Chinese GP.
Nevertheless, he has shown some good pace in the second free Friday practice session at Bahrain International Circuit and set the 7th fastest time. Furthermore, he stood ahead of Nico Rosberg of Mercedes and behind Felipe Massa of Ferrari.
The French driver has said that he is very pleased with his new chassis and after his firm showing in FP2, he is confidently looking forward to attain better result in the qualifying. Besides, he admired the performance of Raikkonen who ended the Friday
practice at the top of the timesheets.
“The new chassis feels good,” Grosjean said. “Today we've been working on getting the right correlation between chassis, setup and tyres to extract everything we want from it. It's easy to know what you want, the difficult bit is getting the little details
sorted, but we're getting there and it's been a positive day. We've seen that Kimi was fastest today so that gives us a great target for tomorrow.”
Lotus trackside operations director, Alan Permane also said that they are very much satisfied with their performance in the first two practice sessions. Additionally, he stated that they are feeling very positive about their performance in the qualifying.
“It was a fairly standard Friday for us, which is a nice way to start the weekend,” Permane said.
He also said that the 27-year-old has shown a convincing pace in FP2 and they are hoping to see considerable improvement in his performance in the approaching race.
“Romain's running a new chassis and overall is happy with the car,” he added.
Let’s see whether the Frenchman will be able to come up to the expectations of his team or not.
