Romain Grosjean is focusing to perform well in the qualifying of 2012 European GP – Formula 1 news
Lotus driver Romain Grosjean is focusing to perform well in the qualifying of 2012 European Grand Prix which is to be held at Valencia Street Circuit in Spain in order to secure a competitive grid position for the race.
Grosjean set the 8th best time of 1 minute and 39.868 seconds in the second free Friday practice session of the European GP. Moreover, he stayed ahead of Mark Webber of Red Bull Racing and followed the Spaniard, Fernando Alonso of Ferrari. Besides,
he is surely one of the most favourite drivers for the forthcoming race.
The French driver said that he is contended with the performance of E20 during the practice sessions and is seeking to advance further in the qualifying.
“It was pretty good,” Grosjean said. “It was less hot than what we were expecting today but tomorrow it may be different so we'll see. The car looks good on the long runs, looks good on high fuel as usual so that's good for the race, and now we have to get
the extra bit for qualifying.”
The Enstone based team has been seen struggling with their qualifying pace in the last few grands prix. Nevertheless, after the Canadian GP, they have been trying very hard to make improvements in their qualifying performance for the races ahead in order
to attain good results.
However, Grosjean said that his main target is to score points in the race which he can achieve even after starting from a lower grid slot. Although, he said that they are going to make their best efforts for the qualifying but they will not compromise on
the race pace so as to secure a higher place in the grid.
“Hopefully we can not disturb our race pace and get a good qualifying pace; I think this is what we're trying to do so far. Let's see if it works tomorrow,” he said.
At present, he is standing on 7th place in the drivers’ championship with 53 points. In addition, he is 8 points ahead of Jenson Button of McLaren and just 2 points behind Kimi Raikkonen of Lotus.
Over and above, he is confidently looking forward to perform with consistency in the upcoming races in order to make his position stronger in the title chase.
