Romain Grosjean of Lotus says he is aware of dangers of Formula 1 – Formula 1 news
Romain Grosjean of Lotus F1 has said that he is completely aware of the dangers that Formula 1 racing poses to the drivers and that he is not crazy.
Grosjean was famously dubbed as a “first lap nutcase” by Mark Webber when he famously crashed into him at the 2012 Belgian Grand Prix in Spa-Francorchamps. As a result of this driving error, the Frenchman was banned for the next round of the season, the
Italian Grand Prix at Monza. This was not it, Grosjean also caused many other driving errors mostly in the first laps of the races during the 2012 season.
“That's what cost me the nickname 'first lap nutcase' last year, but even that must be taken in context. Mark said it straight out of the car in Japan, with all the adrenaline of the race still inside him. I apologised which is the most I can do. I am not
crazy, I am aware of the risks and I have worked hard to correct my mistakes,” he said.
This is why Grosjean thinks that he has learnt his lesson from the last season and hopes not to give a repeat performance. The Frenchman is of the opinion that he needs a lot more sensible approach to becoming a world champion and he will look to improve
on that in the upcoming 2013 Formula 1 season.
“I do not think winning at all costs is the goal, because the dream is to become world champion one day,” Grosjean told Stade2. “Of course, it is true that you have to win races to be champion, but I must be careful not to mistake the goal.”
He also said that he put up a decent showing in the last five races of the 2012 season which are a proof of his skills and he will look to build onto them.
He said, “Over the last five races, I didn't have any other problems and there is no reason to believe that I will have any more.”
The first race of the 2013 Formula 1 season will be held in Melbourne, Australia in the last week of March.
