Romain Grosjean pleased with E20 updates at Mugello test – Formula 1 news
Lotus driver Romain Grosjean is feeling pleased with the team’s progress with the updates in E20 at the end of the three-day in-season test held at Mugello circuit this week.
Grosjean set the best time of 1 minute and 21.035 seconds in Mugello test and covered 66 laps. Moreover, the French driver stayed ahead of the defending champion, Sebastian Vettel of Red Bull Racing.
In addition, he said that they have been successful in evaluating and assessing the upgrades in the test and are looking forward to perform well in the 2012 Spanish Grand Prix.
“We had plenty of things that we really wanted to test since the first race but we didn't have chance to do it, but here we could do them,” he told Sky Sports News. “Sometimes it takes a little bit of time to change what we want [on the car], but I think
there is a few interesting things that we can put [on the car] for Barcelona and for the rest of the season to try to improve our performance.”
At present, he is at 8th position in the drivers’ championship with 23 points. Furthermore, he is one point ahead of Sergio Perez of Sauber-Ferrari.
Even though, he could not be able to score even a single point in the first two races of this season as he was retired. However, he secured sixth place finish in the third race at Shanghai International Circuit in China after starting from 10thgrid position.
Later, in the fourth race at Bahrain International Circuit in Sakhir, he secured an impressive third podium finish after qualifying for 7th place in the grid. Besides, he followed his teammate, Kimi Raikkonen who came second and delivered an incredible performance.
Nonetheless, Grosjean said that they still need to improve in certain areas. He added that every contender has been making the best of the efforts for a competitive finish in this year’s championship. Consequently, he also said that they must keep working
on the significant developments and substantial enhancements in the car so as to make their position stronger in the title fight.
