Romain Grosjean satisfied with E20 performance in Spanish GP practice sessions – Formula 1 news
Lotus driver Romain Grosjean is feeling very happy with the performance of E20 in free Friday practice session of 2012 Spanish Grand Prix held at Circuit de Catalunya in Barcelona.
The French driver set the sixth best time of 1 minute and 23.964 seconds in FP2. Moreover, he followed his teammate, Kimi Raikkonen and stayed ahead of Red Bull Racing driver Mark Webber.
Furthermore, he expressed his delight and admired the car’s balance on both the hard and soft compound tyres of Pirelli. He added that they have gathered some crucial information about the tyres for the race day.
“It was a pretty good day today,” said Grosjean. “The weather is fantastic, the car feels great and the lap times were promising; I'm a happy man. The balance felt strong on both tyres and we were able to complete long runs to give us valuable tyre data
for Sunday.”
At present, he is standing at 8th position in the drivers’ championship with 23 points. Additionally, he is 11 points behind Raikkonen and just one point ahead of Sergio Perez of Sauber-Ferrari.
Even though, he performed reasonably well in the qualifying of the first two Grands Prix of the season, however, he could not score even a single point as he was retired in both the races.
Nevertheless, in the third race at Shanghai International Circuit in China, he came 6th even after starting from 10th grid position.
Afterwards, he secured an amazing third podium finish in the fourth race at Bahrain International Circuit in Sakhir after he qualified for 7th place in the grid.
Over and above, he said that he is eagerly looking forward to perform well in the qualifying so as to start the race from a competitive grid position.
“I'm happy with the performance of the car even when the tyres are nearer the end of their performance life which is a good sign for this weekend. It's very close of course, so qualifying will be interesting. I can't wait for tomorrow to come,” he said.
It will be important to mention that Lotus, currently at third place in the constructors’ championship, have emerged as one of the most competent contenders in this season and they surely have the potential to fight for the championship title.
