Romain Grosjean says he wanted a run in the Young Driver Test – Formula 1 news
Lotus driver Romain Grosjean has said that he wanted a run in the Young Driver Test held at Silverstone circuit last week to get better understanding about the new Pirelli tyres to perform well in the season ahead.
Grosjean did not get a chance to run the E21 in Silverstone during the YDT. In contrast, his teammate, Kimi Raikkonen was first scheduled for Friday running, but the Finnish driver was dropped because of limited testing opportunity for the race drivers.
However, the Frenchman thinks if had taken part in the test, he would have been able to understand the new tyres in a more profound way.
Besides, the 27-year-old said that the new rear tyres suited them pretty well in the German Grand Prix because of which they managed to attain competitive results. He also expressed that they are hoping to come up stronger in the Hungarian GP with the latest
version of tyres by the Italian company.
“As a driver, you always want to be in car getting as much experience as possible; especially when there's something new like different tyres,” Grosjean said. “The tyres we used at Nurburgring suited us pretty well, so let's hope the latest version will
also suit us at Hungaroring.”
In addition, he said that they are aiming to keep on making the essential developments in their car so as to improve the pace of their car for the forthcoming races. He also stated that they have planned to test some major updates in the free practice at
Hungaroring.
“We had a tightly packed schedule over the three day test at Silverstone, to the point where even with few extra days and sets of tyres we would still have had more than enough development work to keep us occupied,” he said. “This has given us plenty to
think about heading to Hungary and indeed second half of the season.”
Presently, he is standing at 8th place in the drivers’ championship with 41 points. Additionally, he is ahead of Paul di Resta of Force India and behind his major opponent, Felipe Massa of Ferrari. Let’s see how he performs in the upcoming races.
