Romain Grosjean says he will help Kimi Raikkonen in title challenge – Formula 1 news
Lotus driver Romain Grosjean has said that he is going to help his teammate, Kimi Raikkonen in this year’s title challenge in the remainder of the season.
Raikkonen has performed impressively well in the season so far and is presently standing at third place in the drivers’ championship. Moreover, he is ahead of Lewis Hamilton of McLaren and is behind his main rival, Sebastian Vettel of Red Bull Racing.
Even though, Fernando Alonso of Ferrari who is currently leading the drivers’ rankings has a strong lead over the Finnish driver, nevertheless, he is still been considered as one of the most competitive title contenders and has a strong chance to win his
second championship this year.
On the other hand, Grosjean is at 8th position in the drivers’ standings. Besides, he is ahead of Sergio Perez of Sauber and is behind his main rival, Nico Rosberg of Mercedes.
The Frenchman has asserted that he himself has no aspirations to win the championship battle and is only willing to help his teammate who has better chance to claim the title.
“I think we need to be intelligent,” Grosjean said. “We started the year with both cars ... both drivers very happy and then until Spa we had fair racing. From now on it's logical that Kimi's fighting at the front of the championship, I don't have many hopes
in terms of position - I'm eighth, could be seventh if we score good points - but Kimi’s still at the front.”
Besides, he insisted that they earnestly need to improve their qualifying pace so as to be able to begin the races from higher grid slots to attain better results. Nonetheless, he said that they are trying their best to make the necessary advancement and
are hoping to come up stronger in the season ahead.
“It's not one and two it's just a question of being intelligent and thinking about the team and not for myself,” he added.
It will be interesting to see how Enstone based team performs in the Japanese Grand Prix which is to be held at Suzuka this weekend.
