Romain Grosjean says his comparisons with Kimi Raikkonen unfair – Formula 1 news
Romain Grosjean says that Kimi Raikkonen’s experience of the sport has given him added advantage in the season so far.
Raikkonen has returned to the sport after a two-year hiatus and has done very well in his comeback year by securing five podium finishes in the first half of the season while his team-mate Grosjean has been able to secure three.
Grosjean believes that his older teammate has been aided by the experience he has had in the sport and that is why he sits ahead of him in the rankings.
Raikkonen has 116 points and is placed fifth in the standings, while Grosjean has 76 points. It is important to note that Grosjean has out-qualified his teammate eighth times in the season so far.
Grosjean admitted that Raikkonen has been a better driver than him in the season but he said that comparisons between him and his team-mate are unfair as this is the Swiss drivers first full season.
“It's true that in the races Kimi is in front, but we always forget that this is my first year,” Grosjean said. “I have been making mistakes, this is why at the start of the season Kimi was 16 points ahead I think and now he's 40 points ahead, but if we
give me back the 18 points at least from Valencia then the delta is less big.”
“I think I made mistakes, I was not lucky a few times and that has been making the difference. But I'm still learning a lot of things, and I think now we are ready to get the second half of the season better than the first one,” he added.
Lotus has been doing pretty well due to both its drivers with the help of a more than reliable E20 Lotus car. The team can deliver more than it thought it would earlier and are not discounting title bids in the season.
It will be interesting to see how the team fares, with Grosjean looking to do as well as his experienced teammate, it will surely mean better results for the team overall.
