Romain Grosjean tops the timesheets in FP1 of 2012 British Grand Prix – Formula 1 news
Lotus driver Romain Grosjean has topped the timesheets in the first free Friday practice session of 2012 British Grand Prix held at Silverstone Circuit.
Grosjean set the best laptime of 1 minute and 56.552 seconds in the rainy conditions and completed 13 laps. Moreover, all the contenders drove on full wet Pirelli compound tyres because the rain continually fell as forecasted.
The French driver was followed by Daniel Ricciardo of Toro Rosso who set his fastest time of 1 minute and 56.827 seconds. Moreover, he covered 10 laps and stayed ahead of Lewis Hamilton of McLaren who seemed comfortable behind the wheel of his updated MP4-27.
Additionally, the British driver completed 6 laps and remained ahead of Sergio Perez of Sauber who set the 4th fastest time of 1 minute and 57.664 seconds.
Felipe Massa of Ferrari came 5th in the timesheets with his best time of 1 minute and 58.119 seconds. Besides, he covered 7 laps and was followed by Mark Webber of Red Bull Racing.
The Australian driver stayed ahead of Kamui Kobayashi of Sauber who set the 7th best time of 1 minute and 58.483 seconds.
Michael Schumacher of Mercedes set the 8th best time of 1 minute and 58.493 seconds. Furthermore, he completed 10 laps and was followed by his teammate, Nico Rosberg.
Rosberg stayed ahead of Jean-Eric Vergne of Toro Rosso who covered 12 laps and was followed by the defending champion, Sebastian Vettel of Red Bull who could only set 11th best time of 1 minute and 59.414 seconds.
Vitaly Petrov of Caterham covered 9 laps and set the 12th quickest time of 1 minute and 59.614 seconds.
The Russian driver was followed by the Williams test driver, Valtteri Bottas who covered 7 laps and remained ahead of Petrov’s teammate, Heikki Kovalainen.
Kovalainen stayed ahead of Pastor Maldonado of Williams who came 15th in the timesheets with his fastest time of 2 minutes and 00.125 seconds.
The Venezuelan driver covered 5 laps and was followed by Kimi Raikkonen of Lotus who remained ahead of Jenson Button of McLaren. In addition, the British driver seemed struggling with his updates as he only completed 6 laps and came 17th in the
timesheets.
Timo Glock of Marussia stood at 18th place in the timesheets and was followed by HRT drivers, Pedro de la Rosa and Dani Clos.
