The Caen midfielder, who was hotly linked with a move to http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Olympique-de-Marseille-c40127, is on the verge of securing a move to Stade Geoffroy-Guichard this summer
While talking to the media on Monday, AS Saint-Etienne president, Roland Romeyer had said that it was important to complete the signing of Romain Hamouma this week as at some point, the procrastination could prove harmful.
Tired of being walked around in circles by Stade Malherbe de Caen, the Saint-Etienne president finally gave an ultimatum to the Normans who have proven to be really frustrating when it comes to selling a player.
Although Romeyer took a gamble, it was worth the risk as the initiative proved to be a successful one. The right winger has met with the club’s leadership this morning and has passed a medical.
The 25-year-old has put pen to paper on a four-year deal with the Les Foreziens. In the 2010/2011, the Frenchman scored nine goals and provided six assists in the league for Caen but his impact was not really impressive last season as he scored just two
goals in the 2011/2012 campaign.
Therefore, Hamouma will now be looking to return to his best with the Rhone club and regain his ability to be the difference maker. Reports claim that ASSE have paid Caen 3.5 million euros for the right-winger.
Though he was attracting a lot of interest from Olympique de Marseille, the player’s preference was more towards Les Verts.
The news of the player’s departure was also confirmed on the official website of Caen.
“The attacking midfielder Romain Hamouma will commit with AS Saint-Etienne (Ligue1) on Thursday. SM Caen wishes Romain Hamouma the best and success for his new club and in his personal life.”
Les Verts have also formalised the move and have also published Hamouma’s first words for his new club.
“I really wanted to come to Saint-Etienne. It was the club that I had chosen. Meetings with President and Christophe Galtier convinced me. We have a great team and all the places to play cards from top of the table.”
The player then went on to say that he has joined ASSE to become a better player and would work hard to do that.
