Romain Sicard optimistic for the 2012 season after missing out most of the previous year
Romain Sicard is optimistic for a fruitful 2012 season after missing out on most of the major cycling events last year. He suffered pain in his knee, right from the start of 2011 and was set back by the team.
The cyclist was arrested in November for drunk driving which ended a disastrous year for him.
Sicard started the 2012 season at the Santos Tour Down Under 2012 and he was looking good at the opening UCI event held in Adelaide, Australia.
He told Velochrono, "I'm relatively satisfied with my preparation over the winter, but I have to admit that my problem isn't entirely resolved yet. It's something that takes time to heal so I continue my rehabilitation. But it's certainly positive to be
able to train and ride normally again, and to be here in Australia for the Tour Down Under".
The 24-year-old won the Under 23 Road Race World Championships in 2009, along with the overall victory at the Tour de I’Avenir.
He joined the Spanish Team in 2010 and will continue with Miguel Madariaga’s squad for the third consecutive year in 2012.
Sicard commented on his condition and briefed that his pedalling stance caused a muscular imbalance and affected his back hip.
As a result of the imbalance, he was unable to push the pedal down with his right leg and joined a muscle building programme which helped him get back on his bike.
He finished 19th during the first stage of the Santos Tour Under and also secured the 6th spot at the Young rider final classifications.
He is currently placed at the 31st position after the stage 2 general classifications and is looking ahead to lift his performance in the coming days of the race.
Romain has not revealed his further plans for the season ahead but has shown interest to ride the Mallorca Challenge and Paris-Nice after completing the Santos Tour Down Under 2012
Sicard’s performance at the Adelaide Race is a clear indication of his improved form. With four more days of cycling left, a stage win would definitely help in boosting his confidence.
