Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich has reportedly blocked his side’s pursuit of FC Porto star Hulk, citing his €100 million price-tag as the reason.
Amongst the host of top clubs monitoring the progress of the Brazilian International, Chelsea were the ones who stood a solid chance of signing him. Andre Villas-Boas worked with the player at Estadio do Dragao and it was reported that he was keen on being
re-united with his former protégé.
The player was also eager to join the English Premier League giants, as he looked to ply his trade at one of the biggest clubs in the world and challenge for honours at the highest level. Backed by the billions of their Russian owner, Chelsea were favourites
to land the former Tokyo Verdy man.
However in a recent turn of events, Abramovich has aborted the transfer, as he claims that Hulk’s price tag is too high. Valued at a whopping €100 million by http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/FC-Porto-c39186, the forward will become the most expensive player on the continent if a club chooses to
sign him.
Although it was said that the Blues were willing to cough up €83 million to secure his signature, it seems even that wasn’t enough for the Portistas, who claim that nothing other than their evaluation would be accepted.
The club are so adamant on keeping a hold of their prized asset, that they rejected a €87 million from Anzhi Makhachkala during the summer. Although a handful of sides in world football boast the necessary finances to lure the attacker, luckily for Porto
all of them are interested in the player.
Paris Saint-Germain have also been linked with a swoop for http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Hulk-c16436, but it comes down the side’s ability to pay out large amounts of cash for a player, who is untested in the rigours of a top European league on regular basis.
While http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Chelsea-c38786 have cited that the player is too expensive, the 25-year-old’s agent claims otherwise and said that his client was worth the hefty price-tag.
Speaking to reporters, the representative said that said the player was amongst the best in the world and that the €100 million would be a worthwhile investment given the Selecao International’s abilities on the pitch.
"Hulk is one of the best players in the world and he is being followed by big clubs in Europe. €100million is not such a high figure. Every European club knows that the money spent on him would be compensated by his talent.
He also added that when clubs in the Far East and in http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Russia-c2991 were paying mediocre players large amounts of cash, then Hulk could definitely warrant such massive spending.
"A Chinese club is already paying £8.4m per annum to an athlete and some Russian clubs are already paying £16.8m,” Teodoro http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Fonseca-c13888 was quoted as saying.
With Chelsea ruled out of the race, only Paris Saint-Germain and Anzhi Makhachkala remain on the trail of the former http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Kawasaki-Frontale-c39683 man and it remains to be seen which one of them sign the player.
