http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Chelsea-c38786 owner Roman Abramovich has sacked yet another manager and is now on the look-out for a replacement. This makes it his eighth manager is eight years, with Andre Villas-Boas having been given just eight months in charge at Stamford Bridge.
Villas-Boas is the latest manager to suffer the fate so many of his predecessors suffered at Chelsea and this time around it was reported the Russian owner delivered the news himself. Less than 24 hours after the 1-0 loss to West Bromwich Albion in the Premier
League, Villas-Boas was informed his services were no longer required.
A statement released by Chelsea stated:
“Andre Villas-Boas has parted company with Chelsea Football Club today.
The board would like to record our gratitude for his work and express our disappointment that the relationship has ended so early.
Unfortunately, the results and performances of the team have not been good enough and were showing no signs of improving at a key time in the season.”
The Blues had a poor start to the season under Villas-Boas and soon found themselves out of the English Premier League title race. They were also thrown out of the Carling Cup and are currently in contention for the UEFA Champions League and the FA Cup.
Their chances in the cup competitions don’t seem too bright as they will be taking on Birmingham City in a replay in the FA Cup, the first fixture finished in a 1-1 draw. In the Champions League on the other hand, Chelsea are down by 3-1 to http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Napoli-c40003 and await
to play the second leg at Stamford Bridge.
According to the statement by the club former assistant manager http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Roberto-c31294 Di Matteo had been made first team coach until the end of the season.
The statement continued:
“The club is still competing in the latter stages of the UEFA Champions League and the FA Cup, as well as challenging for a top-four spot in the Premier League, and we aim to remain as competitive as possible on all fronts.
With that in mind, we felt our only option was to make a change at this time.”
