Roman Catholics and sociology?

So i'm doing a project on roman catholics. me and partner are analyzing them using the structural-functional paradigm (sp?). i need some manifest and latent functions. can you help me out maybe? i'm kind of confused? and can you explain how a socioloigist can use this paradigm because im just very very confused!?

  1. Its hard to answer your question because you don't say what specifically you are looking at about roman catholics. (you need to narrow your topic)

    Just remember when looking at a structural-functional approach you are looking at all the parts separately that make up the whole.

    So you have to analyse individual functions or parts of catholicism like - parts of the Mass, or individual practices such as not eating meat on Friday in Lent, beliefs of sin, etc. then you look at how each part affects the whole religion.... or person's beliefs.... or whatever
