Roman Cervenka optimistic about making it big with Calgary Flames -NHL Update
It is not just every day that you are suddenly signed on by a National Hockey League (NHL) team and get to finally live your dream, but for Czech player, Roman Cervenka, it has finally happened and he is ready to live it up to the fullest.
A day after being signed by Calgary Flames to a one-year contract worth a whopping $3.775 million for the upcoming 2012-2013 regular season, the 26-year-old forward has his eyes set on making it big and finally live his NHL dream.
Having played for the Kontinental Hockey League (KHL) team, Omsk, for multiple season, Cervenka is finally making his move to the North American major league and is hoping to live up to the Flames expectations, because Calgary is certainly looking for an
answer to their problems.
"It will be different hockey on the small ice, so now I need to adapt my training plan to get ready for it," Cervenka said Thursday morning during a press conference."But I won't change my way of playing hockey. I just need to get ready for the new challenge.
One of the things I need to work on during the summer is my English. I will not be able to speak as good as the native speakers there, but I should be able to understand and to say whatever I might need."
For some, Cervenka might not be that big of a deal since he without a doubt played well in the Czech Republic but is not one of those players that will make a major impact right away. He will need time to adjust to the different environment and intense playing
style that the NHL demands, but that does not mean Cervenka is not willing to try.
"I am glad I will play in a hockey city," said Cervenka.
It will be interesting to see how Roman Cervenka develops and plays during the Flames offseason training camp later on this season and whether he is given a chance to participate with the major league team during the regular season.
Cervenka just might be the Flames answer to their weak offence but only time will tell if their investment really does pay off.
