Roman Flight aiming to dominate the Spin 103.8 Handicap at Leopardstown on 28th March, 2012
Spin 103.8 Handicap is one of the most anticipated race at Leopardstown today, on 28th March, 2012. The 1 mile 2 furlong track is good to firm. The race has reeled in nine runners to compete for a purse of €13,000.
Roman Flight has the most appeal in this race, and he will be competing against Little Arrows, Maal, Strandfield Lady, Jazz Girl, Rising Wind, Robin Hood, Malayan Mist and Glor Na Mara. Owned by the Favourites Racing Syndicate, the four-year-old gelding
is trained by C.F. Swan.
The young runner has competed in four races since his career began on 17th
June 2011. With D.P. McDonogh as his jockey, he triumphed over race favourite Gonebeyondthemoon by a narrow margin of ½ a length in the The Irish Mirror Maiden at Limerick. The lightly-raced son of Antonius Pius, out of mare Flight Sequence, unseated
jockey D.J. Casey in the Railway Bar 3-Y-O Maiden Hurdle at Roscommon on 2nd August, 2011.
In his seasonal debut, Roman Flight delivered a solid performance as he finished fourth in the Meath News & Sport Handicap at Dundalk on 16th March, 2012. Mounted by jockey C.P Hoban, the gelding started wel,l but struggled
and stayed in the rear. He continued with the same pace and crossed the wire 1 ¾ lengths after winner Prince of Fashion.
With two victories already in the bag, Jazz Girl success in today’s race will complete her hat-trick. The Andrew Oliver trained filly is in good form, and will compete in her seasonal debut in this race. Owned by Garrett J. Freyne, the daughter of
Johar, out of mare Madame Boulangere, will be riding under G.F. Carroll, who guided her towards her previous victories.
She entered the Fairyhouse Family Day Race with odds of 8 to 1 at Fairyhouse on 18th September, 2011, and defeated Sadler’s Mark by a length.  Her victory continued into the Celtic Rivals Handicap at Dundalk on 7th October,
2011. This time she defeated Harrison’s Cave by narrow margin of ½ a length.
With a third place finish in the Irish Field Handicap at Curragh on 25th March, 2012, Glor Na Mara may claim another placed finish in today’s race.   Trained and owned by J.S. Bolger, he raced under jockey K. J. Manning in his
seasonal debut. He started slow but made progress during the race, but did not have enough speed to take the winner.
The speculation is that Roman Flight may excel in this race but Jazz Girl may be a thorn in his way. Looking to finish her hat-trick, she will race with all her might and topple anyone who stands in her way. Glor Na Mara started off the season well
but may retain his consistency and maintain the same standing.
