Roman Gonzalez: I am hoping that Ioka winds up winning the fight – Boxing News
Undefeated WBA junior flyweight champion Roman ‘Chocolatito’ Gonzalez believes it is an honour for him to be promoted to the category of super champion. Gonzalez wants Japanese fighter Kazuto loka to win the fight for the interim title for the belt he used
to have, so he can face him within 90 days, as stated by WBA.
“According to a resolution recently received by the WBA, it mentions that the belt I used to have will be fought for on December 31st between Kazuto Ioka of Japan and former interim WBA champion Jose Alfredo Rodriguez of Mexico. It states that the winner
of that fight must face me in a period of 90 days. I guess I have to wait to see what happens and fight the winner of that fight in the very near future,” said Gonzalez when asked about his future plans.
“Yes, it’s quite an honor to be promoted to the category of super champion. I think it’s a recognition by the WBA for past achievements,” he added when asked about being promoted to the title of super champion by WBA.
Gonzalez currently stands with 34 wins, 0 losses and 28 knockouts in his bag. He defeated Juan ‘El Gallo’ Estrada last month in a dominating manner. The fight was so enthralling that it is being considered for Fight of the Year.
When asked about his dream fight, unlike others, Gonzalez was humble enough to leave that to his promoters. According to him, he is not in the practice of selecting his own opponents. He added that selection of opponents is a decision that rests with his
opponents.
Gonzalez also said that he keeps himself in top shape for fights and gives his best in the ring to make sure fans get exciting fights. However, Gonzalez did add that he would like to face Brian Viloria, if he is given a choice.
For Gonzalez, in order to be the best he has to beat the best and Viloria is the best one out there. For now, Gonzalez is waiting for loka’s fight to see what lies for him in the future.
