Roman Gonzalez all set to defend his WBA title against Ramon Garcia Hirales – Boxing News
Roman Gonzalez, the current WBA world light flyweight champion, will defend his title for the fourth time against a surging less experienced Ramon Garcia Hirales, the former WBO light flyweight champion, in a 12-round bout which will take place on April
28, 2012.
The ring for the bout will be stretched at Fairplex arena situated in Pomona, California, United States and the event will be promoted by the duo of Bob Arum of Top Rank and Fernando Beltran of Promociones Zanfer.
The above duo will headline the Saturday night show which will be televised live on Azteca America. The night will also witness Wale Omotoso take on an opponent who is still to be decided.
Roman, 24, has a clear upper hand over his Saturday night opponent as far as the experience is concerned. The Nicaragua proud has been in a total 31 bouts and boasts an intimidating undefeated long win streak.
The young lad has nailed a whopping 26 opponents by knockout and therefore has a pretty strong resume when compared to Ramon. Garcia, 29, on the other hand has been in a total 20 bouts and emerged victorious in 16.
He has nailed just nine opponents by knockout and recently lost the WBO light flyweight gold to Donnie Nietes after collecting a unanimous decision loss in his favour.
Roman, also known as ‘El Chocolatito’, proudly resides at the number one spot not only in his hometown rankings but also in the world rankings. Gonzalez has proudly held and defended the WBA world minimumweight gold and grabbed his current title from Francisco
Rosas after collecting a second round knockout decision.
Since then the young lad has successfully defended his title against Manuel Vargas, Omar Salado, and Omar Soto. Roman is coming from an impressive first round knockout win over Manuel Jimenez.
A bird’s eye view of the stats of both men shows that Roman has a clear upper hand over Ramon. Roman is more experienced, possesses intimidating knockout proficiency, is young and therefore agile and has a decent footwork that has not been met by any pugilist
up till now.
Ramon, on the other hand, has just one advantage in his gear, the southpaw stance and if he capitalises this facet in the most optimal way, he might get a huge win of his career and will also skim the affect of the recent two losses off his resume.
