Roman Kreuziger joins Team Saxo Bank-Tinkoff Bank
Roman Kreuziger has decided to end his associations with Team Astana and will now be seen in Team Saxo Bank-Tinkoff Bank colours for the season ahead.
Bjarne Team made the announcement earlier this week and briefed that the cyclist will now be seen in a support role for Alberto Contador along and will also get opportunities to pursue his personal goals.
Kreuziger was delighted after signing the contract and cited that he finalised the decision after speaking with Riis and Alberto.
"I know what I am capable of on the bike, and I know I have a chance of winning in a lot of different races, but over the last couple of years I've lost some of my confidence”.
“Instantly when talking to Bjarne I felt he believed in me, and that this team can help me move on”.
“I have seen how the team works with a young rider like Manuele Boaro, how hard work and dedication pays off, so I thought to myself, I just want to be part of this team".
The 26-year-old marked his professional debut with Team Liquigas in 2006 and represented the team for a period of five years.
He joined Team Astana in 2011 and helped the team with several top performances in the past two seasons.
Team Saxo Bank-Tinkoff Bank is strengthening its squad for the 2013 season and has already signed several new cyclists for the same.
"I believe Roman can be a very strong helper for Alberto in some of the races”, Team Manager Bjarne commented on Kreuziger’s inclusion for the 2013 season.
Riis had to face the distress when Court of Arbitration of Sport banned its star rider, Alberto Contador for a period of two years.
The cyclist was tested positive for clenbuterol at the Tour de France 2010 and was suspended from professional cycling in 2012.
CAS also disqualified all his previous victories which created all sort of problems for Team Saxo Bank-Tinkoff Bank.
Alberto contributed almost 70 % of the total UCI points earned by the Danish team and his exclusion raised suspicions on the team’s World Tour licence.
However, UCI allowed the team to continue enjoying the top level of the sport and Bjarne Riis has done well to find a new sponsor, Tinkoff Bank for the remaining part of the season.
