Roman Martinez to take on Miguel Beltran for the 130-pound title – Boxing News
Roman Martinez, former junior lightweight champion, will lock horns with Miguel Beltran Jr. for the vacant 130-pound belt. The event is scheduled to take place on November 15, at the Thomas & Mack Center in Las Vegas, as reported by Top Rank’s Bob Arum.
It should be noted here that the fight between Roman ‘Rocky’ Martinez and Miguel Beltran is scheduled for the HBO PPV undercard of the Sergio Martinez vs. Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. middleweight world title fight, taking place on September 15.
After Adrien Broner was stripped off the title on July 20, his 130-pound belt went vacant, which is now up for grabs at Martinez vs. Beltran. Broner was stripped off the belt as he failed to make weight for a title defence fight against Vicente Escobedo.
In addition, Arum revealed that the winner of Martinez vs. Beltran will defend the title against Diego Magdaleno, who recently defeated Antonio Davis via fourth round knockout.
“I am ready to fight for a world title. I've been ready for some time,” asserted Magdaleno right after his victory against Davis.
Martinez and Beltran were previously scheduled to face each other in a title eliminator on Saturday in Puerto Rico, on the undercard of Rafael Marquez vs. Wilfredo Vazquez, but the fight could not happen due to the hand injury Marquez suffered recently.
According to Arum, he was first trying to reschedule a bout between Marquez and Vazquez on September 15 but after realising that Marquez might not be up for it, he cancelled the showdown.
The September 15 pay per view is being promoted by Bob Arum and Lou DiBella. Arum has already revealed a showdown between junior featherweight titlist Guillermo Rigondeaux and Robert Marroquin, which is an exciting addition to the showdown.
“It's going to be a very exciting night of boxing, and it's going to be a great main event. It's a dynamite undercard and it's going to be a fan-friendly situation,” said Arum when asked about the card.
“The response and support for the card has been absolutely overwhelming. Virtually all of the seats on the first level have been sold. The seats on the second level are more than halfway sold, and we have approximately 4,000 seats left, so we're looking
forward to a sellout,” he added.
