Roman Pavlyuchenko's freak accident may prove costly to Tottenham Hotspur - EPL news
Tottenham Hotspur striker, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Roman-Pavlyuchenko-c31639, injured himself in a freak accident yesterday during training and could be out for upto two weeks.
http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Andros-Townsend-c6023, a fellow Spurs player, headbutted the coveted striker’s knee as he accidentally fell down during training yesterday.
The Russian’s knee immediately began to swell up and it was evident that he was in considerable pain as he limped off to the sideline. The young winger Townsend also hurt his head, but the pain subsided within minutes.
Roman slipped right onto Andros’ head, which resulted in an injury that could very well put the striker out of action for at least today’s clash against Greek side PAOK Salonika.
Pavlyuchenko has not played many matches in the Premier League this season but has been given his fair share of chances in the Europa League, where he has shown significant potential. This new injury leaves the Spurs manager, Harry Redknapp, with no choice
but to play http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Jermain-Defoe-c18359 along with youngster Harry Kane.
Kane is an 18-year-old prospect brought up from the club’s local academy. Even though the manager believes that Kane could one day be the best in the country, the teenager lacks the experience necessary to tackle a group clash in the Europa League.
"There is no-one else really because Pav did his knee yesterday," Redknapp said.
"It doesn't look very good. He just banged it on Andros Townsend's head. He slipped and hit Andros and it looks very swollen. It doesn't look great."
The 29-year-old Russian scored a stunning long range effort against Rubin Kazan, but has been unable to get regular first-team action in the Premier League, owing mainly to the timely rise on performance by Rafael Van der Vaart and http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Emmanuel-Adebayor-c12526.
Redknapp is still using last-year’s strategy to rest players and rotate in-form strikers and hopes that the club will make it through to the Champions League this year, following a good run of gaining points.
However, Tottenham are expected to bring in their best eleven should they end up qualifying for the knockout stage.
"I'm sure if we go through to the next stage things will change a bit," said goalkeeper http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Carlo-Cudicini-c8340. "It's a long competition but it's a trophy and it's worth trying to win it."
