Roman p***k signs with St. Louis Blues in Five-Year Extension –NHL Update
Roman p***k, 25-year-old defenseman from Ostrava, Czech Republic, has signed with his own team for a further five-year extension after his contract expired. The St. Louis Blues’ management was pleased to announce the deal between them on Thursday, June 2nd.
St. Louis Blues’ General Manager, Doug Armstrong, was viewed by some as being fearful of the upcoming free agency on July 1st which would have left p***k as a free agent in the National Hockey League (NHL) Ocean with teams looking for players.
According to Armstrong, that was not the case at all.
"I use that word 'define' and 'definition' for our younger players, and I have a strong belief of what he's going to be", Armstrong said of p***k. "He's going to be a primary shutdown defenseman and he's proven he can do that role. He's going to being playing
in our top four (defensemen). We know the minutes he's going to log and there's real definition in his game right now".
Armstrong also added in a statement that players who showed signs of improvement and great potential should never be let go of and that was exactly what he saw in p***k. Players who have to play physical and downright dirty deserve to be rewarded with good
deals.
The 6’1 defenseman was treated very well. Not only did he get a five-year extension, but also a huge salary to go along with that time frame, $13.75 million to be exact, which is great for a player of his age.
The 2004 NHL Entry Draft witnessed p***k being drafted in the 6th round as the 180th overall pick by St. Louis Blues. He has currently finished off his sixth season with the Blues and has accumulated a total of eight goals and 41 assists in the 227 NHL games
he has played. p***k was only able to play in 55 games last season because of a wrist surgery.
St. Louis Blues are slowly and steadily improving their performance and by retaining players like p***k in their line-up, they hope that they can play big in the upcoming regular season which starts in October.
