Roman Sebrle and Tatyana Chernova set to appear at the IAAF Combined Events Challenge in Kladno
With the IAAF Combined Events Challenge to commence in Kladno, Czech Republic, is mere one day away, spectators are looking forward to see some of the finest performances displayed by the formidable athletes of the region.
The IAAF combined events challenge is an athletic competition which is primarily organised by the International Association of Athletics Federation. The event is comprised of combined events known as the heptathlon for women and decathlon for men. As the
name makes it rather clear, the title holders of the event are decided on the basis of the total number of points that they score in the three combined events. The IAAF body combines the scoring tables for the participants in the event.
In this year’s event, which is to commence in Kladno, besides other local athletes, it is expected that the limelight of the event will be claimed by Roman Sebrle, who is one of the best decathlon athlete of all time. Formidable counterparts like Romain
Barras, the reigning European champion, Andrei Krauchanka, the 25-year-old Belarusian decathlete, Leonel Suarez, the silver medal winner of the 2009 World championships and Tatyana Chernova, the Russian heptathlete are also expected to appear in the meet.
Sebrle was the winner of the first edition of the event, where he had bagged 8697 points. The formidable athlete who had to miss out the Gotzis’ event amid stomach muscle injury, is very much fit now to appear in the crucial event of his career.
Talking about his form and fitness besides his resolve to do well in the event, the 36-year-old veteran, who is primarily a high jumper said, “I feel 100% healthy, otherwise I wouldn’t compete. But I missed three weeks of training, and a couple of disciplines
I only tried once. My biggest rival will be myself, I want to finish healthy. And, if it goes well, get as many points as I’ll be able to.”
Sebrle, who emerged as the first decathlete ever to bag over 9000 points while appearing at the Gotzis’ contest back in 2001 and earned a total of 9026 points, is yet to qualify for the upcoming Daegu World Championships. This means that the veteran athlete
will have to at least go for the modest score of 8000 points, a standard set by the Czech federation. However, though apparently this is not an impossible target for an athlete like Sebrle, but in the presence of rivals like Adam Sebestian Helcelet, it will
certainly be difficult for him to accomplish the task.
