Zenit St. Petersburg drew 2-2 against Spartak Moscow in the latest Russian Premier League encounter at Luzhniki stadium. In the aftermath of the result, the Bomzhi midfielder, Roman Shirokov, could not hide his frustration.
The Russian national was of the view that Zenit did not play to their potential against the Moscow-based club.
The Meshki conceded a goal early on but managed to score two goals before half time. The home team struck late in the game to end the match on level pegging, in what was an exciting and entertaining encounter.
Roman Shirokov has revealed that the league leaders needed to capitalize on their lead and insisted that the Meshki need to strengthen their defence, which has conceded three goals in their last two games.
“The result is definitely not satisfactory. We arrived in Moscow to win, but Spartacus did not allow us to collect all three points. We played against a great club and I think that we created many scoring chances. But this is football.” The former Rubin
Kazan player told in his post-match press conference.
The Russian Cup winner admitted that the Red-white had the advantage of playing the league tie at home and they managed to get a positive result, despite Nicolas Pareja being sent off.
The match official had a busy day, as the fixture produced five yellow cards in total. Shirokov revealed that he is satisfied with the refereeing decisions and does not have any complains.

The former FC Khimki player insisted that the Meshki managed

The 30-year-old midfielder revealed that Zenit need to be more careful in order to retain the top spot on the league table and demanded more ruthlessness from his side, when they take on the third-placed Dynamo Moscow at home.
