Roman Weidendeller proud of Borussia Dortmund’s display – Football News
Borussia Dortmund show-stopper, Roman Weidendeller, claimed that his side fought brilliantly throughout the course of the game and deserved to win.
Borussia Dortmund lost the UEFA Champions League final to their German counterparts Bayern Munich on Saturday, May 25, at the Wembley Stadium in London. The Borussians lost the tie with a 1-2 scoreline as Mario Mandzukic and http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Arjen-Robben-c6521 scored for the Munich giants.
http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Roman-Weidenfeller-c31655 claimed that his side should not be disappointed as they put in a brilliant showing in all matches of the tournament. The show stopper admitted that the players fought in the final but deemed the late winner by Arjen Robben as ‘unfortunate’ for his side.
The goalkeeper admitted that his side gave Bayern Munich tough time in the final and insisted that his team was unlucky not to have won the trophy at the end of 90 minutes.
“We’re proud to have given Bayern a real game tonight. We played well but it wasn't meant to be,” he was quoted as saying in an interview.
On the other hand, Dortmund defender http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Mats-Hummels-c24767 expressed his disappointment on losing the game in the dying moments of the fixture. He admitted that the players were a bit tired at the end of the game and stated that Bayern took advantage of a sudden lapse in concentration in defence.
The defender accepted that it was very hard for his side to leave the ground losing, as the players were prepared for extra-time. However, Hummels takes a lot of positives from the season and is impressed with the way his team performed throughout the season in Europe.
“We feel pride but also disappointment when you lose a match in the 90th minute. But we were a little tired at the end and Bayern took advantage of that. We didn't have enough possession and it told in the end. It’s hard to lose like that,” he concluded.
Borussia Dortmund have had a mixed season, as they finished second on the Bundesliga standings table and lost the final to their bitter rivals, Bayern Munich. The team has a tough task ahead next season as Mario Gotze has already left the club.
