Roman Weidenfeller confident that Borussia Dortmund will win the Champions League – Football news
The Borussia Dortmund goalkeeper has revealed his excitement ahead of the UEFA Champions League final.
The two German clubs, Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund, will take on each other in the final of Europe’s premier club competition at the Wembley Stadium on Saturday, May 25. It will be Bayern’s third final in four years and they will be looking to win
it this time around after ending up on the losing side on two previous occasions.
http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Roman-Weidenfeller-c31655 claimed that his side wants to emulate the team of 1997 that defeated Juventus in the UEFA Champions League final. He insisted that the 1997 side is frequently talked about because of the admiration and determination it had. He wants to
achieve the same glory by winning the competition on Saturday.
“Everyone still speaks today with unbelievable admiration about the '97 team. Should we now also succeed in lifting the trophy in London, we would probably achieve a similar status. But Bayern will be determined to do everything to beat us on Saturday,”
he was quoted as saying in an interview.
On the other hand, the shot stopper stated that Dortmund have not been consistent this season and the performances in the league were also relatively poor in comparison to the previous campaign.
However, the player stressed that the team has been brilliant in Europe and the form has to continue in the game against Bayern Munich on Saturday. He added that the players need to play with full determination to get the desired result against a very good
team.
“Unfortunately, we have show bad concentration too often at times this season. We were also not as determined as in the previous season in the league. However, in the Champions League we have played very differently. It was clear from the first whistle in
every encounter that we have tried our hardest with maximum effort,” he concluded.
Jurgen Klopp will be looking to capture his first UEFA Champions League trophy with his current side after winning the league on two occasions and the DFB-Pokal last year. He is considered to be one of the most talented managers in the Bundesliga right now.
