  1. The main staple of Roman food was bread.  It depends.  The lower classes in Roman culture didn't have much of a selection.  The richer, upper classes had access to expensive ingredients and spices.  Here is a partial list of foods that the Romans had:

    Carrots

    Parsnips

    Onions

    Lamb

    Lentils

    Honey

    Spelt

    Celery

  2. Olives

    Grapes

Bread (I believe the romans actually put CHALK in their bread dough at one time, but I don't know why)

    Cheese

    dried ham

  3. Roasted pine nuts.

    Flat bread with honey.

  4. Pizza and Spagheti! lol

  5. An interesting side note is that they also made "Garum" or roman fish sauce.  It was the basic seasoning used in much of their cooking and also used as a condiment.  A good example of it is the use of fish sauce or "nuoc mam" in vietnamese and thai cooking.  It adds a subtle flavor but really stinks by itself!
