in Santiago, Chile. She registered a 6-2, 6-3 victory over the Dutchwoman to book a final four place on Thursday.
World number 309 Tabak easily sent the Dutchwoman, ranked eight places below her in the Sony Ericsson WTA Premier Rankings, home. She not only advanced into the last four but also avenged her loss at the Rotterdam ITF event earlier
this season.
The blooming Tabak stayed on the right path for her second career title after pocketing the opener with a 6-2 success. She dusted away all breakpoints faced and cashed in two out of five break chances to her advantage.
The Slovakian youngster kept momentum floating into the final set. She got the first blood the second game to eventually go 3-0 up. Later, Tabak kept remaining serves and clinched the set with a 6-3 score line in almost half an
hour long marathon.
Tabak spilled more errors and double faults but she defended all breakpoints came across. In addition to this, the three breakpoint opportunities the Slovak converted to her advantage, earned her the glory.
The Slovak won her maiden career title at the Asuncion ITF event (crushed the second seeded Argentinean, Florencia Molinero). Mustering her performance further, Tabak made a title-round appearance at the Buenos Aires ITF held last
week before entering this tournament in full conviction.
Next up for the seed is the second seeded Paraguayan, Veronica Cepede Royg, who blasted past Argentinean Maria Irigoyen in straight sets to reach this spot. Royg lost her serve once but broke the Argentinean’s serve four times
to seal the deal with a 6-2, 6-3 victory.
Brazilian qualifier Paula Cristina Goncalves will join the Slovak in the semi-finals. She upset fifth seeded Spaniard, Ines Ferrer Suarez in straight sets to reach this spot.
Goncalves exchanged two breaks in the opener and quickly dragged the set to a tie-breaker. She dominated in it and subsequently manipulated a 7-6(4) victory.
The high spirited Brazilian broke the Spaniard’s serve twice to register an impressive 6-2 score line.
The Brazilian formulated a better first serve share and dominated throughout the match.
The qualifier will square off against Argentina’s Mailen Auroux who made an epic comeback against Peruvian Bianca Botto to set-up this battle.
