Romania defeats Italy by 3-2 in CEV match - Club Volleyball update
Tomis CONSTANTA of Romania took on Volley BERGAMO of Italy on December 13th in a CEV Volleyball Champion’s League match. 2,000 spectators looked on as the two teams met each other in a Pool D match in which Romania’s squad was able to emerge as
victors after five long and grueling sets.
Despite the fact that the Italians fought hard, they could not muster a win and are placed at the bottom of the pool with only a single point to boast for itself. On the other hand, the impressive win that the CONSTANTA squad was able to earn was achieved
at the following final set scores: 25-19, 18-25, 17-25, 26-24 and 15-11.
The first set of the match started off with both teams putting on their best show but eventually CONSTANTA was able to get itself the advantage at 9-5. BERGAMO did not let its opponents get away with the lead and was able to close in the gap in order to
reach a tie at 9-9. After that point, the match went back and forth for a bit but finally the CONSTANTA squad was able to put on a burst of speed and take the opening set of the match for itself at 25-19.
The second set of the game started off with the Romanians taking the lead in the beginning at 8-6 however, BERGAMO did not let their rivals get too far and were able to close in the gap. Before long, the Italians had the lead with themselves and they were
able to constantly increase the lead with the CONSTANTA squad. It was only a matter of time before the Italians had bagged themselves the second set of the game at 25-18.
The third set of the match saw the BERGAMO building on the momentum generated by winning the previous set and take the lead early on at 6-0. Not only that, the Italians were able to extend their advantage till 8-3. The Romanians seemed to be having a tough
time with their game as they let their opponents increase the gap and move on towards another set win at 25-17.
The loss of the third set of the game triggered the Italians into action and they were able to rally themselves together. However, it took the Romanians some time before they were able to overtake the 16-12 lead of the Italians and secure themselves the
set at 26-24. The confidence generated by winning the fourth set of the game made the Romanians perform better in the fifth set as well as they got themselves the lead and finally the set at 15-11.
