After winning its last match against Hungary at home, the women’s national volleyball team of Romania delighted the local fans with a splendid straight-set victory over Spain in the second match on Saturday.
Romania is the host of last leg of the 2012 CEV European League Preliminaries. The home heroines stamped 3-0 (25-21, 25-19, 25-19) win over visiting Spaniards and bagged three points. Romania is now second in Pool A with a total of 19 points and an overall record of 6-5.
Milagros COLLAR of Spain put up a valiant effort for her team. She added match-high 17 points, in the failing effort. For Romania, Denisa Adriana ROGOJINARU and Daiana Giorgiana MURESAN proved highly effective. They added 12 points each and led their team to success. Obiamaka did pretty well on the defence side and added match-high five blocks.
The ambitious Spaniards started out well and picked up an early lead in the first set. Collar took full advantage of her height and produced mighty shots that perfectly landed on the opposite side. The home ladies, on the other hand, had a slow start in the match and suffered 3-point deficit at the first technical timeout (5-8). The home coach requested the first timeout and sent the team back with a complete set of instructions. The performance of Romania saw an improvement and the hosts managed to narrow the gap of points to 10-11, which forced Spanish mentor to ask for a timeout.
Romania went up at 12-11 for the first time in match and did not allow Spain to come up afterwards. Local heroines controlled the operations of the game and finished opening set at 25-21. Spanish side had a good start, but failed to carry the momentum.
The second set imitated a see-saw battle until the second technical timeout. Both sides committed mistakes and regularly traded lead. Nonetheless, the hosts staged a consistent feat after the second TTO and cruised past to 25-19 win.
Third set was all about Romania as Spaniards failed to take lead for a single time. The visitors trailed behind throughout the set and eventually received 19-25 defeat. Romania clipped all three sets of the game and settled for 3-0 victory.
