Romanian captain Marius Tincu hopes to avoid repeat of 134 point defeat against England – Rugby News
The captain of the Romanian national Rugby Union team, Marius Tincu, has stated that he hopes to avoid a repetition of their 134-point defeat, which his side suffered when they last played against England in 2001. He is quoted as saying, “I don't want to
see the same thing again.”
Tincu made these comments on Thursday, September 22 ahead of the Oaks upcoming 2011 Rugby World Cup’s (RWC) Pool B encounter against England on Saturday, September 24 at Otago Stadium, Dunedin.
Romania had a great start to their 2011 RWC campaign after their impressive show against the Scotland, in which the later eventually handed over them a 10 points defeat, with the final scorecard reading 34 – 24.
Later, in their second match against the Argentina, the Oaks faltered as the Pumas handed over a thumbing 35-point deficit beating. Recalling their game against the Pumas, Tincu said, “I wasn't happy with the Argentina game. Beforehand we thought we could
win. We'd trained well in Queenstown but it didn't happen.”
The 33-year-old Tincu admitted that they lack of experience hurts his side but if his team wants to make any sort of impact during the weekend game, they need to find a way to keep ball possession. He added that his squad is much improved as compared to
their previous outing but they need to back up this claim with their consist performances in matches.
Meanwhile, Romanian head coach, Romeo Stefan Gontineac, has announced his match day squad for their upcoming encounter against England. Gontineac has named Tincu to the bench for Saturday’s game.
Additionally, Gontineac has named Marin Danut Dumbrava in the starting xv, for their English encounter. Dumbrava was moved to the bench, following his poor performance in the Oaks opening game against Scotland, in which he missed a few easy penalties.
