Romantic beaches near Athens?

Question

My future fiance and I are headed to Athens in about a week and I need advice on romantic locations, especially about beaches near Athens. I've been to Athens twice before on business, but never done a day and evening trip to the beaches. I'm thinking about popping the big question on a beach, since she loves beaches. I need recommendations on romantic beaches near Athens, restaurants, must dos, and transportation advice from the heart of Athens. Thanks!

How lovely!

It's a bit of a trek from central Athens but I would suggest taking her to Vouliagmeni. You could get a taxi but to make it more special, why not hire a limousine?

If you want something luxury you can go to Vouliagmeni beach, there are also some nice reasturants and cafes

If you want something more simple but also romantic you can go to Kavouri or Anavisos beaches..

The best place to pop the big one is Cape Sounion,at  sun set..The scenery is fantastic. I hope she says YES and you both live happily ever after.Good luck.Yia sou.

1.Sounio by all means - about 1-hour drive from Athens ! If you stay till dusk you will enjoy an awesome sunset !

2. Portorafti - mostly pebble beaches but amazingly crystal clear waters.. Avoid the weekends where it gets rather crowded

3. Aegina Island - a 40 minute flying-dolphin ride from Pireus

4. Salamina Island - just 1 nautical mile from Pireus. There you'll find quiet beaches and romantic Greek tavernas. I recommend some ouzo and fresh fish - the catch of the day. Try calamari and prawns.

I have to agree. There are really no romantic beaches near Athens, but Cape Sounio and Lake Vouliagmeni are both gorgeous, and only about an hour outside of the city. You could also take a day trip to Aegina, which is the nearest island, and propose there. Good luck!
