albert dock is romantic try the est est or the blue bar you may even see a few local footballers or celebs ( well hollyoaks actors ) good luck

if manchesters not too far the bay tree in cheadle is lovely no snobbery good food and service very cosy need to book though at weekends.

I always like Smithills Coaching Inn in Bolton, though it is a good way from Liverpool, about 40 minutes.

Out of the town, a nice old country manor, great English menu, excellent value, Dickensian theme.
