Question:

Romantic things to do at night in London?

It's my boyfriend's birthday on the 8th August (yes, I'm planning ahead!). We're going on a river lunch cruise on the Thames then on the London Eye during the day, but those are actually a late Valentine's Day present so I want to do something else for his birthday aswell. Any ideas? A swanky hotel or maybe a romantic/upmarket late-night bar? We're an alternative couple so anything different or unusual would be good aswell. I've checked theatre and concert listings and there's nothing on that he'd like, so I'm all out of ideas.

It's a tricky one, so thanks in advance!

  1. Kerb crawl

  2. ok now this would blow the budget - http://www.tripadvisor.com/Hotel_Review-...

but maybe get a good deal on www.laterooms.co.uk. It looks like it has a nice bar, and it's kind of funky!!

http://www.squaremeal.co.uk/restaurants/... - this place is just a bit unusual

  3. Swanky hotels can be quite (no.... very) expensive in London.  The best hotels (Claridges, Ritz, Sanderson, Covent Garden etc.) can charge between 350 - 500 a night.  The Malmaison is nice and might be in your price range. www.malmaison.com.

As for swanky bars that are romantic then the Jewel bar in Piccadilly circus and Maiden Lane covent garden are beautifully decorated and very interesting.  You could try the Dover Street wine bar which has live music but not the usual cover versions, more soul and jazz.

I'm sure you will have a lovely time whatever you choose.

  4. go to a resturant

  5. I agree with christine lrice cake queen... a walk along the river is lovely.  Also you could go for a nice meal.. the OXO tower restaurant has great food and the views are stunning.  How about an evening picnic in one of the parks?  You could also do a London sightseeing tour by helicopter if you have the cash:

  6. A walk along the Fulham Palace Road and under the Hammersmith Flyover...Its what moonlight nights were made for

  7. I like to visit swanky hotel bars such as the ones in the Sanderson, St Martins Lane, Calridges or the Dorchester because without having to pay loads to actually stay there you can enjoy the luxury surroundings and top level service. I would phone in advance and reserve a table saying its your other half's birthday and you want to sit down and enjoy a bottle of champagne.

For a full evening experience try a place like Babylon (Kensington Roof Gardens) which has amazing views, the foods pretty good and then afterwards you can go downstairs into the club and dance to some thumping choons whilst enjoying a cocktail or 3.

  8. Stroll along the Embankment arm-in-arm and watch the reflections on the water....magic...then stop at a little riverside pub for a night-cap. Stop thinking you have to spend loadsamoney; my best times in London were when I was a poor student!
