I'm looking for somewhere unique and beautiful to go for a weekend away here in England with my boyfriend, preferably somewere with historical interest that also has some great scenery...not the Lake District or Cornwall though, as we've been there recently...

Any suggestions as to where we should go would be much appreciated!

  1. cornwall what a beauiful place. the people are so nice. they have beauiful hotels by the sea. my husband tuck me last year. so lovely. have a great time.

  2. the cotswolds

  3. Edinburgh or possibly somewhere in Wales such as Cardiff? If you're ok with ferries then you could consider going across to Dublin or somewhere else in Ireland as I hear that it's lovely across there.

  4. Bath... book yourself into a spa break!

  5. hull

  6. York?

  7. The UK is England, Scotland, Wales & Northern Ireland altogether,

Are you one of those people who only calls England, the UK?

    Lake District,

    Cornwall,

    Cotswolds,

    Northumberland,

    Yorkshire Dales,

    Peak District,

    North Yorkshire Moors,

    York,

    Bath,

    Oxford,

    Strafford Upon Avon,

    Cambridge,

    Warwickshire,

    Lincoln,

    Englands Garden, Kent etc,

    Brighton,

    South Downs,

    Ribble Valley,

    London,

  8. Edinburgh is nice and also historic if it is not too far

  9. As mentioned, York or Bath, both are good and have a lot of history. Durham is a nice place, so is Warwick, Stratford, Lincoln, Beverley, Whitby, Cambridge, Oxford, even London is nice for a weekend get away.

I wouldn`t go to Hull as its a glorified Cess pit, and you do right not to go to Scotland as its full of Gingers, and Scientists haven`t found signs of intelligent life in Wales yet.

  10. I live in Cornwall, which is beautiful, but we have just come back from a short stay around Exmoor, and I can honestly say, the scenery is even more breathtaking than Cornwall. We stayed in Dunster, a very old village, with a castle, and lots of history. We visited Cleeve Abbey, a 12th century monastery which was fantastic, especially the wall paintings that have survived for 800 years.

Most of these gorgeous places are around Minehead, which itself is a dump, but there are some wonderful pretty places nearby, like Porlock Weir, Luccombe, Lynmouth, and Lynton, Horner, all really beautiful places, also a trip on the steam train from Minehead, is very romantic.

We enjoyed Exmoor so much, we have booked a fortnight in September, there's loads of gorgeous placs to visit, the scenery is to die for, and even WE discovered some romance, after 33 years of marriage.

Have a lovely time, wherever you go.
