Oleg Romantsev believes that Spartak Moscow should have given more time to Emery in order to turn the tables and has questioned Zenit St. Petersburg’s signings, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Hulk-c16436 and Axel Witsel
Former Spartak Moscow head coach, Oleg Romantsev, has lamented Unai Emery’s early departure from the Moscow-based club, saying that the Russian Premier League club should have given more time to the Spanish tactician.
The 41-year-old Spanish coach, who joined Spartak after leaving http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Valencia-CF-c40864 this summer, left the Moscow-based club despite signing a two-year contract with the Russian outfit earlier this year.
Spartak announced the former Real Sociedad manager’s dismissal following the Red-Whites humiliating 5-1 defeat in the league tie against Dynamo Moscow at Luzhniki stadium earlier this month.
And while Spartak have been replaced by Valery Karpin for now, Romantsev is of the belief that Emery would have altered the situation at the Moscow-based club had he been given more time.
“I think they made a hasty decision to sack Emery after less than a year. I opposed the club’s decision to appoint the Spanish tactician when they were looking for a suitable candidate for the vacant managerial position.”
“They should have thought twice before making him the manager. I think they should have stood by him after signing him.” The Soviet Top League winner was quoted as saying.
Speaking on Zenit St. Petersburg’s transfer policy, Romantsev admitted that the defending champions overpaid on the likes of Hulk and http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Axel-Witsel-c7029.
News in Russian media suggest that the St. Petersburg club reportedly paid a massive 100 million Euros fee to the Primeira Liga club in a bid to sign the players from http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/SL-Benfica-c40542 respectively.
“After making these signing Zenit should have progressed to the next round of the Champions League. But I think that the internal affairs prevented Zenit to do better in the European tournament.”
“I think they looked more dangerous even without them," he concluded.
Zenit managed to progress from the group stages of the Champions league despite being drawn against FC Porto, Shakhtar Donetsk and Apoel FC last term. Romantsev revealed that the new signings are yet to make an impact.
