Hi, I'm thinking of going and checking out rome. I've never been before and was looking for hotels. What part of rome is the best place to stay to enjoy the city? I want to be close to the action like restaurants/nightlife, and all the historic things to see, and if possible also a beach. I pretty much want to be sort of close to everything and not spend a lot of money on cabs. Is Trastevere the best for all of this, or is there a better part of rome to stay at.

Thanks

  1. Trastevere....Vatican is too far and full......of tourists and people tryin to sell you things!

  2. Traatevere has alot going on at night, it's always busy you will never be bored.  There's so much transportation that you can visit the vatican every day, but transportation stops after a certain time, so it would be better to be in Trastevere.

If you want a more quiet setting the Vatican would be best, but during the day it's swarming with tourist groups, it's also kind of far from everything else but you still have transportation everywhere, at night it gets a bit harder to find busses heading that direction though.

Since you want to go to the beach you will need to take a train off of LINE B at the PYRAMID ... and it will head towards Ostesia, it's different from the metro so you will need to buy a separate ticket but it still leaves from a section of the metro.

On sundays starting at 6 am there is an open market at Porta Portese which is really easy to get from Trastevere and it has alot of things you can look at or shop.

Best bet is to go with Trastevere.

  3. Trastavere has the cafes and nightlife, but you have a bit a of a journey to the beach, I think it takes about an hour. Don't spend money on cabs, take the bus! Or walk!

  4. Trastevere is OK, but also close to the Vatican City is a good starting point: from there you are walking distance from restaurants, monuments and night life.

    check here for the hotel:
