  1. if you're looking for a bit of a chill out in the evening and like a spot of people watching then you cant beat sitting under the columns in st peters square. its breathtakingly gorgeous at night and you can sit for ages just taking it all in. i advise popping to one of the many gelati stores beforehand and taking a delicious ice cream with you! i can definately recommend the one just up the street from foot locker, over the road from st peters. enjoy!

  2. For me the Pantheon was awesome.

and when you cross to Vatican city, go via Ponte Umberto to Castel S Angelo then head to St Marks Basilica.

it's also worth the 30 min trip to Frascati, from the main station,  where the papal court used to go to escape the heat of roman summers.

  3. If you're only going for a couple of days, make sure you visit The Vatican and The Coloseum. We went for 4 days, went out all day every day and couldn't cram everything in so we went back last year for another week and still weren't done!

  4. Colosseum,Forum,Capitol Hill, Pantheon. Piazza del Popolo, Spanish Steps , Campo de' Fiori,  Trevi Fountain ,Vatican City ,

(St. Peter's, Vatican Museum, the Pope

  5. There are lots of guides - pick one up on your way to the airport - it will give you something to do on the flight.

Rome is full of interesting sites. My favorites are the Pantheon and Santa Maria Sopra Minerva. The Colosseum, Palatine Hill, the Forum are all close and worth seeing. The Mouth of Truth is interesting to. The Vatican is good, especially the Vatican museum. You can make a whole trip out of visiting the Fountains - Trevi Fountain is world famous, the four rivers fountain in Piazza Navona.

If you're interested in seeing some of the more offbeat things, and have the time, there are plenty of choices. Some of the more obscure, but interesting, things are:

The view through the keyhole at the Consiglio di Malta on Aventine Hill. There's a picture here: http://www.theculturedtraveler.com/Archi... and others:

This is worth the effort to find (close to Circus Maximus) - relatively few do. This site give directions on how to find it: http://wikitravel.org/en/Rome/Aventino

The Crypt at Santa Maria della Concezione dei Cappuccini is also worth a visit if you're interested in seeing works of art made from the bones of .more than 4000 monks. http://www.cappucciniviaveneto.it/cappuc...

The Museum of the Souls of Purgatory is essentially a ghost museum.

  6. dont go, its a **** hole

  7. the Eiffel tower

  8. trevi fountain, the pope

  9. Rome in two days:

Colosseum,Fori imperiali, Vatican, Spanish steps, Navona square, Trevi's fountain, Condotti street, Campo dei fiori square, Villa Borghese park ( in particular Pincio), St John church, st Paul church. Happy holiday

  10. The Eiffel Tower? What the--

    Go to the Pantheon (freeeeee)

Spanish Steps (again, free), and just up the stairs and around the corner from the Spanish Steps, is the Colosseum

    Vatican City (must, must, must)

Sistine Chapel (will take you a better part of the day; not free)

And my big thing is roaming (ha! Rome, roam) around any city I'm in. You get a better idea of what the city is truly like, without having to resort to too many touristy things. My list is of the major things you should do, especially if you're only going to be there for a few days. If you can, try going to tripadvisor.com, which allows you to search for the best attractions in almost any city in the world, reviewed by fellow travelers.

    Have a great trip!
