  1. This isn't the right forum to ask this question. It should be posted in a video game area of Yahoo! Answers.

None the less, RTW is a historical game, so I guess there is no harm helping you out. When your faction is nomad, i.e., you possess no settlements, you have "horde troops," they have a horde symbol on their unit cards. When you take a settlement, you hordes "settle down" in the settlement, thus you lose them. You lose one third of the horde troops for each settlement you take, and after three settlements, you are considered to no longer be nomadic and thus have no more horde troops.

The strategy is wait to settle down. Sack any cities you take until you find a nice spot to build your empire. When I played the game, I would usually go south-west, sack all the big East Roman cities (the bigger the city, the more money you get) and then settle in the West Roman lands.

Also, beware, you don't have to pay money while you are nomadic, but once you settle down you have to pay maintenance and troop fees. When you do settle down, unless you are in a really good spot and have trade rights with a lot of nations, you'll be losing a lot of money every turn. Thus you want to collect enough money from sacking cities so that once you settle down you have enough money to build up your economy.

Also, if you like Barbarian Invasion, I recommend these mods: http://www.twcenter.net/forums/showthrea...

They make the game more historical, add new units and cities, and make it a lot more fun. Enjoy.
