  1. Sistine Chapel, the tour is about 50 bucks including entrance fee.  They will tell you the details of all that you see, but go early in the morning as it is very crowded and you will be tired.  Don't try it at 3 in the afternoon.  Other than that we just enjoyed Rome by bus or taxi although the taxi ride from the airport to downtown was expensive.

  2. I think not.

I just got a good guide book and studied it beforehand. So much of Rome can be seen on foot and I hardly had the need for any trains or cabs. The book gave me all the narrative that I needed and I saved money.

  3. I would definitely recommend booking a tour. I just got back from there and without a guide I would have been completely lost. They give you a lot of details and insight as to what Rome would have been like in its prime. Some good tours include the Vatican museums and Sistine Chapel. Also the Colesseum and Roman Forum. Most of the tours are around 35-50 Euro but they are worth it. Be sure to go right away in the morning as the sites get very hot and busy.
